Word(s) of the Day

Today is a typical Monday. I’m tired, hungry, and I don’t want to be at work! Ever have one of those days? If you haven’t, you must be under the age of 5 :P

Anyway, I felt the need for a creative jumpstart, so I signed up for a Word of the Day calendar on www.pageaday.com. The word for today wasn’t that fun (I don’t even remember it now), but I was able to look at past days, too. I didn’t feel like doing anything else just yet, and I figured it might also give me a few ideas for my blog name, so I wandered all the way back to April. Here are a few of the most appealing words I found … and their meanings ;) :

  • “recrudescence” – renewal
  • “mettlesome” – spirited, plucky, brave
  • “bedizen” – to dress gaudily
  • “gallimaufry” – hodgepodge
  • “demotic” – common/popular
  • “kowtow” – fawn, worship, show deep respect
  • “borborygmus” – tummy rumbling
