Let’s Smoke It

I’ve heard this phrase often around my office today, it seems. Yes, my office. I’d never really realized it before, but software programmers and those around them use some odd language sometimes. In this case, when they say “let’s smoke it”, they don’t mean cigarettes or fire or anything of the sort. They’re talking about getting rid of software features (albeit in a somewhat destructive fashion). I also found this definition online that tells me my company is not entirely alone in this seemingly absurd terminology:

Maybe it doesn’t seem that weird to anyone else, but it struck me that way today!
