Car Dancing

Don’t tell me you’ve never done it. Sometimes you just can’t help it. You’re just in a good mood, and that perfect song comes on, and your body almost starts moving to the beat all on its own.

It’s called car dancing, and according to my Google research, it’s really not that unusual. I even found a playlist of recommended car dancing songs! A story from fellow blogger French Toast Girl got me thinking, and this morning when I found myself dancing and singing along to Shackles by Mary Mary, I just knew I had to write about it.

For me, car dancing isn’t a constant thing. It depends on the music I can find to listen to and the mood I’m in (although sometimes it can change my mood, too). And of course, you’ve got to remember to be careful and safe while you’re car dancing … a little “shakin’ it” at 65 mph is alright, but save the flashy moves for the stop lights.

And you either have to be SUPER self-confident, or avoid all eye-contact with those around you. As one blogger mentioned, she received a little extra attention from fellow drivers and was a bit embarrassed, while another blogger actually enjoys hearing from his passengers about the reactions of those around him! Oh, and if you can pair up with a car singer, it makes the experience even more fun!

Finally, here are some of my own picks for car dancing, should you choose to test your hand at this entertaining pursuit (I’ll add to the list as I think of them):

Nothin Better to Do – Leanne Rimes
Shackles – Mary Mary
Switch – Will Smith
Grey – Barlow Girl
Girls with Guitars – Wynonna Judd

Fashion Must-Have: Shoe Wheel

Alright, I admit it, I’m a bit of a shoe-a-holic. It’s kind of an occupational hazard when you work as a fashion writer! Anyway … I may not be as bad as Imelda Marcos (if you don’t know, she actually has a museum of shoes!), but I do have more than my fair share, so you can understand why I might covet this gorgeous little invention from Rakku Designs.

The Shoe Wheel is a mobile storage unit with twenty adjustable pockets that fit a variety of shoe styles — up to thirty pairs total depending on the type. On the sides, clear plastic panels allow you to see what’s inside without anything falling out, and the frame is made of polymer. According the site, you simply insert the shoes through elastic bands around the outside, rotating the wheel to choose a pair.

Pricing hits at about $65 from what I’ve seen in my research. I don’t think I can splurge on my own Shoe Wheel just yet, but when I do, I’ll be sure to let ya’ll know!!

UPDATE: I just saw on About.com that the Shoe Wheel won the “Good Design Award” from the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture & Design — the competition spans 25 countries. Wow.
