Need a Hand?

I’ve been known to wander other blogs in search of fun, interesting, unique, or just plain random posts that catch my eye. Here’s something I found through Design Boner (odd name, I know, but Porcelain and Cardboard come across some intriguing items).

These are part of a series of handmade wall art, doubling as coat hooks, created by Thelermont Hupton. I decided to provide you with images of the more friendly gestures (left to right: peace, wave, OK), but a few more explicit hand signs are available, too. The sculptures are offered in several shades, all in the actual size of a person’s hand. Sadly, the cost is expensive enough to prohibit me from investing in even a single one. If you, however, are not so unfortunate, you can find them available for purchase at Hidden Art Shop.

Cup and Saucer Café

Warning: this blog may make your mouth water. You may want to protect your keyboard.

There’s one place I can always count on for an amazing meal: the Cup and Saucer Café on Hawthorne. It is seriously the ideal place for weekend breakfasts. The food is delicious, the waitstaff is friendly and the prices are reasonable. Should you choose to check out this hotspot, however, be prepared for a bit of a wait.

Okay … let me backtrack a little bit. I’ve only been to the Cup and Saucer for Saturday brunch, so my scope is somewhat limited. But I’d bet my observations can be applied to almost any day and time.

The decor … typically eclectic for this part of town. The artwork changes regularly (local contributions, I believe). And although the setup isn’t exactly conducive to an intimate conversation, it’s a fabulous environment for people-watching, as are so many places in my beloved Stumptown. Window-shopping is a great after-brunch activity, too.

Food: plenty of options for everyone. The veggie-lovers and vegans among you will be happy to hear that menu items available include dairy-substitutes, tofu, gluten-free products, and free-range eggs, while the carnivores will salivate for the best bacon I’ve ever tasted. My personal favorites include Challah French toast, cinnamon/brown-sugar pancakes, and these amazing vanilla scones! I can’t eat there without them ;)
