My Two Loves: Rain Showers and Shoes

During one of my favorite afternoon activities … wandering random blogs … I chanced upon an image that combines to of my most favorite things in the world: rain and shoes. Rain, of course, is unavoidable in my beloved Portland, Oregon (although today is ironically sunny), and if you’ve read any of my other blogs, you’ve no doubt discovered my affinity for fashion and footwear.

This shot, although I sadly cannot trace its origins, combines the two with another fave: black and white photography! Ahhhh … my day is complete :)

Simple Sundays: At Home

This week, the simple pleasure I’m writing about actually occurred on Sunday. Ironic for my first participation in Simple Sundays, no? This Sunday, my fiancé and I again attended Rolling Hills Community Church (RHCC) for the morning service. We’ve been there maybe half-a-dozen times … neither of us really have a home church right now, since we’re rarely in the same place two weekends in a row … but we’ve gradually been searching for a place that we might like to attend together. RHCC seemed like a good choice to start because my high school youth pastor is now involved in their children’s ministry and events coordination, and he’ll be doing our premarital counseling and wedding ceremony next year.

Anyway, today we spent the first part of the service talking with him as it’s been awhile since I actually sat down and talked to him, and he just met my fiancé a few weeks ago. We sat in the alcove outside the sanctuary, and watched the rest of the service on a TV screen (yes, it’s a very modern, large church). It sounds odd, but somehow I felt more comfortable and more able to focus today than I ever have at this church.

So that is my pleasure this week. I just felt so comfortable, at home, and relaxed and yet attentive during the service today. As Christians, we often talk about the church as being God’s House, but today it really felt like a home … sitting on a couch, next to my fiancé, watching TV, drinking a Starbucks white chocolate mocha, but we were also learning and being focused and growing together and in Christ at the same time. Here I truly felt AT HOME.
