"Magenta Mistake" – A Coworker’s Footwear Faux Paus

Today I noticed an appalling choice of footwear on a coworker’s feet. Seriously, it pained me to look at them. It wasn’t so much the shoes themselves, but the way she was wearing them that was so disturbing.

Let me first describe the shoes. They were a pair of strappy satin sandals, in an unnatural shade of almost neon magenta (something like the square at right). The wedge heel was, I’d guess, 3 1/2 inches high, with a 1 inch platform in front.

Now, that’s not all bad, right? Paired with a little black dress and some coordinated jewelry, the shoes could work for dancing or a cocktail night or something of that sort. But she’s wearing these shoes at work. And it gets worse.

She’s also wearing them with jeans. Tapered jeans. I don’t care what they say, tapered jeans will NOT come back in style. On top of that, she’s wearing a crocheted-type of sweater that’s in a shade just different enough from the shoes that I’m assuming she thought they looked good together but in truth, they clashed horribly.

I’ve saved the best/worst for last though. Her socks. Yes, socks! With open-toed, strappy sandals, in a shade of baby-girl pink! Seriously! I don’t usually go in for excessive exclamation marks like that, but my goodness … this is one fashion faux pas that calls for it.

World Series 2007: Game 1

As anyone should know by now (if you don’t, what’s wrong with you?!?), the Boston Red Sox won the first game of the 2007 World Series 13 to 1 against the Colorado Rockies. Personally, I’m not a die-hard Boston fan, but my fiancé is, so I actually watched the last 2 1/2 hours of the game. Well, I had it on while I was cleaning and organizing and packing away some things to put in the attic and other things to take to Goodwill. But hey, I was at least keeping an eye on the score ;)

Anyway, it was actually kind of enjoyable. I told him afterwards that I’d been watching it, and he was astounded … now he’s convinced that next year he’ll have me watching games with him during the regular season, too. But what’s even funnier was my brother’s reaction when he saw me watching the game.

He came in to my room to ask me some random question, and totally forgot what it was when he saw the TV. “Is that the Boston game?” he says, incredulous. “Yeah,” I answered, in that so what? tone of voice. “Wow ….” was all he could reply, and stumbled away shaking his head.

Now, my fiancé and I have been together for more than a year and a half. He’s been an avid Boston fan all his life, and this is the first time I’ve voluntarily watched a game, on my own (and why not, it is the World Series). Yet my younger brother has been dating his girlfriend for approximately 5 months (and only known her a few months longer), and although she’s currently 1800 miles away at school, he goes to her church every Friday night and Sunday morning, and then spends the remainder of the day Sunday with her family … remember, she’s not there! And he thinks I’m the one who’s head over heels. Ironic, no?
