Which word do you use to refer to your wireless phone? Until recently, I always used “cell.” But lately, I’m thinking I might switch to mobile, because it seems, at least to me, that it’s more universal.
For example, it’s what Wikipedia uses. Yes, I admit I base a lot of things on Wikipedia, but hey, it’s a popular site! And if you search for cell phone on Wikipedia, you’ll be redirected to Mobile phone. It’s also the name used for that field in Facebook, and my new Blackberry, and the term that’s more common in my office.
Technically, both terms are correct, and most Americans use them interchangeably. For the most part it seems to be simply a matter of preference which term a person chooses. However, from the little bit of research I did online, the term”cell phone” appears to be common only in the US — that’s why I said “mobile” feels more universal. So … I think I’ll be trying to change my vocabulary.
Also … the photo is basically what my new Blackberry looks like. I’ll post a review of it once I’ve had a little more time to experiment
