Hair Dryer Prayers

One Year Mini for Busy Women At AmazonA few weeks ago I picked up a book at Christian Supply, The One Year Mini for Busy Women, and I’m glad I did.

I’d been wanting some kind of devotional, something fairly short and simple, with a verse or two, a bit of reading to relate it to modern life, and questions or statements to prompt self-reflection. This little book was the first one I spotted and the title seemed ideal, so I picked it up and flipped to that day’s page, February 22, called “Hair Dryer Prayers.”

Its verse is Proverbs 15:8, “The Lord … delights in the prayers of the upright.” The discussion section mentions how busy a woman’s life can be, and the author says that in college, she had a roommate who always prayed as she dried her hair each morning. She writes that “it was a reliable, undistracted time when she could connect with God.” I knew when I read those lines that I needed this book, because just that morning I’d been asking God how to find a reliable, undistracted time that I could spend with Him each day, and here was a perfect answer!

He’s provided timely messages through this book on other days too. Yesterday, the topic was “Creative Juices” and the passage talks about how God created us to be like Him, including in the aspect of being creative. It mentions how our creativity often becomes stifled in adulthood, and suggests finding ways to exercise it more often.

I absolutely took that opportunity yesterday, when a coworker and I were working on custom photos for our company’s website (there’s a few examples below). But until I reread the entry last night, I didn’t even completely realize I’d done it! I think that just goes to show that this book is exactly what I need right now. I feel like I am taking each day’s lesson to heart, and I think I will continue to exercise my creative abilities by blogging about my experiences a bit more often, too. :)
