Another photo from our beach trip last weekend.
I heard an odd story on the radio yesterday about a bat in a bra. Seriously. I only caught a snippet of the broadcast, so I thought perhaps I’d heard wrong, but today I spotted a news story that confirmed it.
Abbie Hawkins, 19 (left), is a receptionist for Holiday Inn Norwich North, near Norwich International Airport. Her bra had been hanging out on the washing line the day before, but she didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary when she dressed in a hurry around 7:30am and left for work. She told reporters that she “felt a slight vibration but I thought it was just my mobile phone in my jacket pocket.”
After her lunch break, when the phone had been removed and the strange vibration didn’t stop, Hawkins “plucked up the courage to investigate and I pulled out a little baby bat. I just lost my breath when I saw it and I did not know what it was at first,” she said. “”It looked quite cozy and comfortable in there so it was quite rude of me to take it out.”
Apparently the bat thought so too. It ran for cover under her desk, looking for a dark spot and hiding from the crowd that quickly formed. It was soon caught by a colleague and then released into the hotel garden by the general manager.
All I can say is … that must have been one tiny bat, and/or one really hungover teenager.
The other day my mom sent me a link to a Hallmark ornament to put on her Christmas wishlist. Yes, she knows Santa doesn’t come for more than six months … but we’re both plan-ahead kind of people. Like mother, like daughter, I suppose. Besides, when I saw this cute little ornament, I couldn’t blame her.
It’s a perfect miniature version of the Fisher Price Play Family Farm that I played with as a kid, whenever we visited my mom’s parents. Apparently some people consider it an antique now! Anyway, the ornament has working doors that make a “mooing” sound when opened, just like the original (the ornament is battery-operated). The Hallmark site shows a little video – click here to see it.
I showed the link to my daddy right away. He recognized it immediately too …. shook his head with a smile … and agreed, “Yup, we’d better get that.”
