Wienermobile Sighting

This colorful contraption – it’s the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, folks, no joke – was parked outside Fred Meyer’s in Tualatin last week when I stopped by to pick up a few necessities.  All the little kiddies were enraptured by the giant hot dog on wheels. Seriously.

"Oh, I wish I were an Oscar Mayer wiener ... "

And now you’re going to have that silly jingle rattling around in your head all day. Muhahaha.

Cinnamon Roll Day

I’m declaring today to be Cinnamon Roll Day. Do I have any clout with which to do so? No, but I have three good reasons.

This morning, I woke up craving cinnamon rolls. Not just one – multiple cinnamon rolls. Thankfully we had a can of those great, ready-in-10-minutes Pillsbury kind. Bought a couple with a coupon (yay for saving money!) yesterday. Anyway, twenty-five minutes after I crawled out of bed, I had a yummy hot breakfast.

Savoring that sweet cinnamony goodness as I browsed my email inbox, one subject line caught my eye: “Today Only: Free Cinnabon, Subway, MaggieMoo’s & More Tax Day Freebies.” Now Subway isn’t as high on my list as it was before I started frequenting Quizno’s, and I’ve never heard of MaggieMoo’s, but free Cinnabon? Count me in.

I clicked on the link to discover that a number of retailers are cashing in on Tax Day hype (today’s the infamous April 15, you know) by offering special discounts, freebies or other promotions.  In the case of the World Famous Cinnamon Roll, they’re giving away bite-sized versions free from 5-8pm tonight at all mall-based locations (sorry, airport bakeries don’t count).  Why?  Because “tax day bites.”

Finally, since free food is nigh irresistible, I gave in to check out the other promos too.  The next best offer?  Discovering MaggieMoo’s Ice Cream & Treatery is not only giving away a free scoop to each customer, but they have a location about twenty minutes away from me!   And no joke, there’s a flavor called Cinnamoo Bun (no, that’s not a misspelling; it’s got a cow theme, people).

So like I said, it’s Cinnamon Roll Day here at Gwen’s place.  Reason one: I made Pillsbury cinnamon rolls for breakfast (and ate another for lunch).  Two: Cinnabon rocks Tax Day by giving away free bites because “Life Needs Frosting”.  Three: I’m gonna try a new dessert option for free at MaggieMoo’s tonight, a scoop of Cinnamoo Bun ice cream!

Simple Sundays

Well, my day hasn’t really been anything special – actually right now I’m feeling a bit bored and listless and just kind of at a loss of what to do.  I’m hoping a bit og blogging will improve my mood – if not I’m resorting to ice cream. ;)

sunshinecThe highlight of today for me is short and simple – the sun shining in all its warm and radiant glory.  I’ve gotten so tired of the gloomy weather, so sick of the cold and the rain, that I couldn’t help but smile as the sun streamed into our apartment early this morning.  I took a drive with my best friend, enjoying the warm breeze with the windows rolled down, and later kept pausing in the sunny spots around the living room to soak up the warmth.  So yeah, that’s my simple Sunday pleasure.

As I’m thinking about it, I’m realizing that most likely the only thing that’s dragging me down as the evening wears on is the fact that it’s the end of the weekend.   Then it’s back to the grindstone tomorrow.  At least the store is closed on Easter … I’m thankful for that!
