Thanks to a pair of free movie tickets that have been sitting around the apartment since we got married six months ago (thanks again, cousin!), my honey and I went to see Monsters vs. Aliens on Saturday night. And not only did we get to a movie within the first two weeks of its release, we saw it in IMAX 3D … a first for me!
The movie itself, I loved. Fabulous voice cast, family-friendly, plenty of quotable one-liners, great graphics (dude, it was IMAX), and a respectably unique storyline with a few forgiveably predictable plot twists. Granted, it’s no award-winner, but it’s certainly a welcome 95 minutes of laughs.
Film ritics called “Monsters vs. Aliens” forgettable and repetitive … but what isn’t these days, when a dozen or so new films are released almost every weekend? Personally, I enjoyed their ’50s sci-fi references (at least the ones I caught), and the amount of explosives and physical comedy definitely benefited from the 3D experience.
My short’n’schweet critique: It doesn’t quite live up to the hype, and it’ll never be a classic, but there’s enough kaboom, slapstick comedy, pop culture giggles and high-tech graphics in “Monsters vs. Aliens” to make just about anybody happy. Except, of course, those nit-picky critics.

Monsters vs. Aliens is very interesting, can we see 3d films on usual computers?
